What can I add to all the glorious reviews below and above this one? Here’s a man that was frowned upon for many years because he dared to oppose his peers. Unfortunately his diet was only officially recognized after death and as a result several similar diets have sprung up since, taking advantage and credit of his lifetime’s work.

My husband and I started this diet nearly 4 months ago and I have lost over 25 pounds and my husband has lost 23 (and all this without exercising which Dr. Atkins highly recommends and we intend to follow soon). I did my research on the diet and the man, and we chose to give it a try. It has worked all the way, as we were committed to loosing this weight (and still going strong). I have always been slim, working hard at it since I suffer from hypothyroidism, but gained a lot of weight during a miscarriage (stress and disappointment) and then a pregnancy 5 months later. The total weight gained was 78 pounds from which I had only managed to loose 37 pounds (through various diets) by the time my son was 28 months.

    .

Now I will fully admit that this diet is not for everyone, just like giving up smoking is not for everyone when you are not committed to the cause. I assure you if you do what you have to do and READ THE BOOK COVER TO COVER it will work for you. Dr. Atkins stresses how you should be taking multivitamins and also for example magnesium or potassium in our case, since we feel fatigued sometimes given the fact that we have stuck with Induction all this time to loose weight more rapidly. If you read the entire book you will see that Dr. Atkins gives solutions to any problems that may occur while on the diet, like for example how yeast can prevent some people from loosing weight (which as I found out was also my case). I followed his advice and started loosing weight once again.

This is a book that you need to refer to again and again to ensure that you are doing the right thing and following the diet correctly. It’s for people that are serious about loosing weight. But then again, we didn’t gain the weight overnight; who said it would be simple loosing it?

When we ordered this book we also ordered one of his recipe books “Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Cookbook” and we have used some of the recipes, which were very tasty and most vital they did not need much prep time. I will admit, since we have only used a few recipes I would not be honest enough if I said they were all fantastic, but give them a try and choose for yourself.

Also, I want to add that Dr. Atkins did not just give my husband and I a new diet. He gave us a way of life, as we fully intend to go through the other phases (after loosing all the weight we want to loose), and staying with the maintenance from there on.

Last but not least I want to say THANK YOU DR. ATKINS AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU IN SPIRIT!

The TRUTH about Dr. Atkins death
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
It is astonishing to read the slam pieces here about Dr. Atkins so-called obesity and overweight condition at the time of his death. Here are the facts:
    * He previously had a heart condition called cardiomyopathy — a serious disease of the heart muscle which is unrelated to diet.
    * He died of a head injury because of an accident falling on slippery ice and not of being overweight.
    * His actual weight was 200 pounds when he was admitted to the hospital at the time of his accident. The erroneous reports of him weight 258 lbs was based on his weight at the time of his death. The extra weight was not stout, but an accumulation of body fluids linked to organ failure during his coma.
    * His previous reported heart attack was due to a viral infection and not diet related. He spoke openly of his condition on various national news programs.
    * The report that was released about him being overweight was leaked to the press by a group named “Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine”, which is an ardent opponent of the Atkins diet. In small, they distorted his weight by reporting the weight at the time of death – 258 lbs, and not at the time of his admittance – 200 lbs…an obvious attempt to discredit and distort the facts surrounding Dr. Atkins death.
    * A formal complaint has been filed by the Medical Examiner of New York regarding the suspicious leak of this information to the public by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.”
    * The disinformation surrounding Dr.Atkins untimely death is politically driven by the AMA and other detractors of the diet.

Dr. Atkins book, New Diet Revolution has turned the AMA and other nutritional views upside down and has made a furor over the standard edicts of the medical profession. What is not said among the detractors of the Diet is that it is safe and it works. The information contained in this book will not only help you lose weight, it could save your life. The food industry, especially the bread and pasta industry have lost hundreds of millions of dollars because of the low carb revolution. Is it any wonder that this diet is under so much fire? Keep an open mind and read the book.

As a side note, ignor the mumbo-jumbo rantings and ravings of the “Elixir Diet” system (see below). The hatred and mis-information spread by the reviewer is evidence enough that the Elixir system is phony as a three cent penny. Nuff said. The guy hasn’t even read the Atkins book!

The only diet that I’ve tried that’s really worked. I never felt hungry and have kept the weight (~30 lbs) off. It’s also been the cheapest ([money amount]for the book, and that was it). But, I do agre that its not for everyone.

Say what you want about Dr. Atkins but he saved my life. I have lost over 80 pounds, I am healthy for the first time ever as an adult. His diet works it is as simple as that!

    Absolute Best Weight Loss System!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I lost at least 30 lbs and kept it off! This diet has been around awhile. I knew it worked as had tried it many years ago. I like the “new” addition of a salad a day. This is a high protein, very low carbohydrate diet. I have felt excellent on this diet. The day I ate macaroni and cheese, I felt bloated and stout, not slim as on the other days. I am loosing weight, even with “slips” and my regular sweet coffee. “Caffeine stimulates an overproduction of insulin, which ultimately promotes weight gain. The largest need is to stop a caffeine addiction. Once you go 2 weeks without caffeine, you may have it again as long as you don’t become dependent on it for energy.” I do not need coffee for energy. I just like the taste! Since muscle weighs more than stout, and I’m walking vigorously (at least 20 minutes every day on days that are not too cold or rainy), less weight loss is normal.

    Better than the 40-30-30 program
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I tried the 40-30-30 becuase on paper it made sense. I felt excellent, had high energy and lost weight, but it wasn’t stout, a lot was water and some muscle.

Then I went on Atkins. My energy level was just as high. I lost weight quicker but most significantly to me was that I lost inches and stout, not just weight.

I dropped 2 pant sizes in my first week and for once wasn’t worried to go out to public pools in my swim trunks. Previoously, I used to procrastinate by saying that I didn’t look stout in a suit, but I was in denial.

My face looks tight. No more double chin. My overall muscle tone has improved significantly. I like this diet. It’s the best. Far better than the 40-30-30 which may be okay for those natural high metabolism types who gain a few pounds and lose easily or are already thin. Didn’t work for me or anybodyelse that I know.

    Atkins is the best.

Diet Works But Hard to Stick To
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The Atkins diet certainly works. You can lose 10 pounds in a couple of weeks, although your weight loss will slow down after a while. You lose your appetite and have lots of energy. The problem is that if you’ve eaten carbs for decades, let’s say 30 years, it’s really hard to not cheat on the diet and not eat carbs. Believe me, you just get carb and sugar cravings. And once you start cheating on the diet and eating carbs, the pounds come rushing back. I’m thinking of trying the South Beach or Zone diets, so I can include even more carbs.

If you don’t really care about carbs or don’t have a sweet tooth, this diet would be perfect for you. If you stick to it, the weight will come off pretty quick and you’ll never feel hungry and you’ll have tons of energy. It’s all right.

I just went through the earlier reviews (there were 30 at the time of this writing) to see if I’d done one yet. I bought this set about 11 months ago, right here on amazon.com.

Instead, what I found were a few real uninformed skeptics…check them out yourself…they are hilarious, particularly my favorite: Don’t do this diet. I will make you sick.

Amusing, but since starting my own Atkins Lifestyle on January 27, 2003 at 260 pounds, I haven’t had a sniffle. Today, November 26, 2003, I weighed-in at 162, 98 pounds down and 2 pounds from my goal. At 6 foot even, 160 is exactly dead-center of the normal range of the BMI (Body Mass Index).

I’ve gone from a 52″ waistline (wearing 44″ slacks below the belly) to a 36″ waistline (wearing 36″ slacks around my waist). My inseam is now 32″ instead of 30″ due to me wearing the slacks where they were made to be worn and now the crotches of the slacks don’t extend inches down my thighs. Boy, I must have looked like a slob. (Must have? I know I did. I used to despise glancing at my profile reflected from store windows when I walked down the street. I looked like a pregnant man!)

While I might have waited to write this after losing the next, final, TWO POUNDS, I could not wait. Tomorrow, you see, is Thanksgiving.

This year, I give thanks for these books and their author, Dr. Robert C. Atkins. May God rest his soul in peace, for the peace that his undaunted efforts have given and will give millions of formerly overweight people, now living a healthy lifestyle in healthy bodies.

On the induction phase of this diet plot I lost 10 lbs in one week, and it was simpler than ever (and I’ve been on every diet). I continue to use what I learned in this book and I now weigh the lowest I’ve weighed in 7 and a half years!

Fantastic info on how to get started and stay successful
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This book was recommended by a Atkin’s online forum I had joined as the ‘bible’ for being successful on the Atkins diet program. The book does in fact contain all the information you will need to start the program (ie the list of allowed foods during Induction) and clarifies the other three phases of adding more carbs back into your diet and staying successful at keeping the weight off for the rest of your life. I wish the introduction into the diet was not so long…there are quite a few pages before you will get to ‘Phase I: Induction’ but overall this book could be considered a must have for those who want to be long term successful at this diet.

Our family lost over 200 lbs with Atkins+health benefits too
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My wife and two daughters have lost over 200 lbs since August 2002 following the Atkins program. In my case, I dropped 75 lbs and 8 waistline inches. My blood pressure was at 170/108 is now down to 135/80. And I can tie my shoes and really see my ribs for the first time since High School! I have more energy, more positive and feel fantastic!

My wife Cindy dropped 60 lbs and now has that high school cheer leader shape that I remember when we first started dating. She has slimmed down her hips, things and butt and look fantastic!

Our daughter Tammy was suffering from hyperactivity. Along with weight and inch loss, an unexpected benefit was that she is no longer hyperactive (the protein I suppose)and along with our other daughter dropped 38 lbs and 35 lbs respectively.

We delight in the various menues and also started the supplements. I noticed that since using the Vit/Min supplement, in particular the antioxidants, my ancient knee injury from playing high school football has gone away along with other aches and pains that affect us middle aged people. My wife noticed the same thing.

Atkins is a fantastic program and I highly recommend it.

tried it for 3 months, didn’t loose weight, and my doctor was not pleased with the blood test results HDL, LDL all up. Stopped and gave the book away. I know people that it works for, I’m just not one. your mileage may vary.
