I stayed away from diets for years because they were making me fatter, then I found Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution. Iam losing weight quicker than I ever had in the past, and I can live with the food you get to eat! what diet before this lets you eat steak and whipcream!

Dr. Robert Atkins states as his philosophy, “Orthodox medicine is not to be discarded; it is simply to be added to.” He goes on to describe a medical philosophy that turns heavily on modifying diet (largely by restricting carbohydrates) and using high doses of vitamins and other food supplements. Although his evidence is anecdotal rather than study-based, it impresses by sheer volume. Much of his treatment philosophy falls in the “can’t hurt” category; clearly, few people can be harmed by cutting out junk food and taking vitamins. But, his lowest-carbohydrate diet permits unlimited animal foods such as beef and eggs, while placing a daily limit on vegetables like broccoli and spinach. My nine-year-ancient would like this diet, but the AMA and other “mainstream” medical authorities do not.

I find it hard to imagine how a patient eats on the most restrictive diet. Bread, milk, yogurt, and fruit are forbidden; most vegetables are restricted, although the limit may be as high as six cups per day; cheese and other fermented products may be forbidden to a yeast-ridden patient; and patients with food intolerances may be denied beef, chicken, peanuts, and a host of other foods. What’s left? I would have appreciated a few sample eating plans.

Due to the sheer weight of Atkins’ anecdotal evidence, the book is compelling. The reader is tempted to rush right to the kitchen, toss the white sugar and flour in the trash, and dust off the vitamins. But, this book suffers from the same lack I find in most of the currently-well loved low-carbohydrate eating systems – it doesn’t show a credible way of turning his recommendations into a sustainable lifestyle.

Dr. Atkins, My parents have read your book and have been on the diet for about 5 month They have really lost the weight they wanted. I live in Hawaii and they live in Maryland and I haven’t seen my dad or mom in nearly two years. When I saw him last he had place on allot of weight and When he came out to Hawaii I couldn’t belive that he had lost all that weight. My mom wasn’t a heavey person but she silent smoking and place on some weight and she has gone on your diet and lost the weight she wanted. My husband and I are going on this diet soon. I am only 15 pounds over weight that I feel. My husband wants to loose about 25 pounds. I reckon this is a fantastic way to loose weight. Thank your for your time. Diana Steinbach
