Atkins Diet Misconceptions: Special Foods Required?

***Join the Atkins Diet Video Facebook fan page -bit.ly *** In response to a comment insisting in order to be successful on the Atkins that you had to eat expensive Atkins food, I wanted to make this video. I deal with the topic of having to eat replacement meal shakes and bars in exchange for real food to be successful. I personally believe Dr. A let these foods into the diet reluctantly as he admitted people couldn’t always make the “best” choice when eating, and sometimes just had to be provided a “better” choice. He did not but intend this diet to be Nutrisystem diet with pre-packaged meals as a means to success. This is the same doctor that advised shopping the outside row of the grocery stores where the whole foods were. I’ll deal the muscle loss comment in videos to come.

    i have lost 67 lbs on atkins diet since march 11 2010. i bough some atkins brand advantage bars and had terrible luck with them. i checked my self with ketone strips before and the next day. i showed fewer amounts of ketones the next day after eating 2 of them. according to the box they had 3 net grams of carbs, so with my other food that day i still would have been under 20 grams. i havent treid them again. i reckon that the atkins products should be used sparingly.

    @jvarela965 Never tried that one — you can try mine:
    “Atkins Diet Recipes: Low Carb Flax Bread”

    It will always turn out, but it is somewhat vital to use golden flax (milder flavor).

  3. jvarela965 says:

    @bowulf Type ” low carb bread made in the microwave in one minute ” in search

  4. mariebabylon says:

    @bowulf Yes !!!

  5. bowulf says:

    @jvarela965 Which one or recipe did you try?

  6. bowulf says:

    @mariebabylon Hopefully you’ll like the new recipe videos coming up too…

    @vsnyders THanks for the encouragement, and if I can help one person not be misled or falsely discouraged, I am pleased.

  9. jvarela965 says:

    I tried making the low carb bread I saw here on YouTube using flaxseed and soy flour and it did not work :(

    UGH! I do NOT EVEN TOUCH any “aktins” products. Why would I? Dr. Atkins entire diet relies on WHOLE REAL foods!

    @ANGIEfromAtoZ Just trying to do my part in setting the world straight, and if I can’t do it, I’ll send them to your channel to see your wonderful results.

    @n10ding I don’t reckon you’ll have to worry about this ever coming right. I am never small of detractors stopping by and trolling with their comments, and helping others refute with them with science and anecdotal evidence is cause enough. Plus I doubt I’ll ever be one small of opinion on a particular subject or new low carb product.

    @bowulf NOOOOOOO don’t ever stop making your videos.. This is a community of those of us who are aware enough of our bodies and our low carb diets. I like this community!! So that makes MORE reasons to keep this going.

    @BelievingInDusty I know exactly what you mean. If only all those trying the diet would be like you, read the book first, and then try or comment on the diet, I might have less questions. On the terrible side, I’d have less cause to do videos too. :-D

  20. BelievingInDusty says:

    Oh my goodness! :P Why don’t people know what they are talking about before they talk?! Ahhh! I feel like after reading most of the book what they are trying to say is “Hey! These Atkins food choices are here if you want them but you can be successful without them!” I’m glad you made this video. You will answer a lot of questions for people who haven’t read the book! :)

  21. bowulf says:

    @angel292005 No problem – I like continuing the dialogue with other low carbers. If they get motivation, well so do I in their responses.

    Processed foods kill you. Follow his advice and stick to the perimeter of the store!

  23. bowulf says:

    @mshealthfirst Statements like this regarding breakfast thoughts without eggs on Atkins:”For starters, you can always have an Atkins Day Break bar, Advantage bar or Advantage shake as part of a meal” irritate me as the first response. We get it you make on the bars and shakes. :-D The first response should be reckon outside the box — like my breakfast video hoped to say, but those are just my opinions..

  24. bowulf says:

    @mshealthfirst I complete agree with your last statement.

    As for the new Atkins book, I’ll fess up. I haven’t read and memorized the book like the 2002 version. I skimmed the one at the library, so bear that in mind. Once I read and formalize my thoughts better, I’ll do a formal review.

    The excellent:
    * More, updated science
    * clarified statements, better edited
    * Very similar to 2002 version

    The terrible:
    * Veggie controversy (cups vs. carbs)
    * Allowance of convenience foods with terrible ingredients

  25. bowulf says:

    @underthehour2000 Exactly… I reckon people dramatically over estimate the cost of Atkins meals if one did one-to-one comparison. I believe I spend less now than I did before Atkins buying pre-made commercial meals and untold number of snacks. Atkins might require to be intelligent shopper as well as food preparer than the routine eat anything person — buying / preparing different meats and vegs depending what’s on special.

    These are things that came second nature to people 30 years ago.
