Atkins Diet: Is there a Golden Shot?

**Photos of my QC and Des Moines Marathon at the end** Is there only one shot at the Atkins Diet success? In this video, I deal with the “Golden Shot” theory (www.lowcarbluxury.com which states that the first time is always the simplest time to lose weight with low carb. While I acknowledge that the body can react differently over time to food and thereby make it tougher (or simpler) to lose weight, the same processes and rules that worked the first time should work each and every time. Your CCLL numbers may change as you age or have different activity levels, but the procedure for finding them and your reaction to the number stays the same. You can be as successful the second time as the first. The goal should be long term health and keeping the weight off, so figure out what went incorrect the first time, ie what caused you to get off the diet and return to ancient ways of eating. Second timers who have regained their weight since losing the first time should in fact have a leg up on first timers as they should already know the program, know the rules, and have keen interest to learning how to keep the weight off this time. The thought of the Golden Shot seems just a bit off to me as well as it just serves to feed self-doubt and set one up for failure. You CAN succeed at this diet whether it be your first or third attempt.

I had fallen off the diet and to kick start it I do the stout quick for a couple days and am now doing the induction and its been nearly two weeks and Ive lost 11 lbs its pretty incredible
This is my second time around and WHEN not IF, BUT WHEN I loose about 300 lbs , I will be able to concur with you on this.
I absolutely agree. It is way to self-sabotage or make self-doubt where none needs to exist. Why not hit the second, third, 50th time with the same mindset of the first time? Thanks again for dead on comment.
I reckon by stating that you only get ‘one shot’ at this is so negative and is probably the reason that people don’t loose, thinkling
” well because of the golden shot, i’ll never loose the weight” so you dont !.
I have fallen back into eating unhealthy carbs a couple of times but when i get back to healthy eating I alway lose well.
The ‘Golden Shot theory’ needs to be taken out of the low carb equation and more people might be healthier.
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching and nervous to see your progress.
thank you for this video and for your message regarding my diet. Im excited about trying this again and I will certainly keep you posted on my progress!
i want your bunny.
Congrats on your success and proving once again that a slip up doesn’t mean the end. Excellent job!
you are so right on the golden shot it IS a myth, I messed up during the holidays, gained about 6 lbs,and I went back to induction and I’ve lost 14 lbs since January 5…and today is Janusry 14 so…it is a myth.
In the beginning I didnt have inductionFlu and don’t have it now. My friend went on Atkins and stopped b/c of it, but I had no clue that so many people experienced what she did. I thougt is was just her! I have a pastry addiction, but I usually don’t drink regular soda’s and drinks, eat a lot of fried foods, or starches so maybe those that do have such problems. Even being off atkins I didnt eat rice, potatoes, pasta, or candy that often.
Thank you for affirming the truth. Congrats on being down 4 pounds already. I have said before if it wasn’t for the weight loss, the health benefits of the low carb lifestyle would be reason enough to do it. How’s the Induction flu this time around?
amen. I was on Atkins for about a year about 3-4 years ago and lost 60lbs. I have been in induction for about 5 days and have lost 4lbs. It works, I work out 3-4days a week too. was on low stout diet and developed hypertension and was starving and binging. On atkins a feel fantastic and 3ys ago my hypertension was under control. my metabolism is very very slow and insulin problems, but atkins has been the ONLY diet to consistantly and reasonably work for me.
How anecdotal… Show one study that proves this theory of yours, please. Post your menus and exercise on a site thedailyplate or Fitday for a month, and we can probably find what is going incorrect with your weight loss. The first thought that comes to my head is “are you eating enough Calories?” You are exercising 15 hours and need the fuel for that.
I can point to countless examples of past Atkins followers who have lost the weight again – take none other than Jimmy Moore.
Here is how it’s unhealthy: No other diets will work for you if you regain the weight. I have tried strict atkins, raw diet, very low calorie diet, weight watchers, name some more and I’ve tried it.
I haven’t eaten sugar or grains for over 4 years now and I do not eat any foods with chemicals added to them. I work out 15 hours a week doing cardio, pilates, and weight training. When you regain weight from Atkins, you have a VERY hard time ever losing weight again.
Hey I heard about your diabetes race too. It’ll be just a matter of time after that elliptical training that you’ll be running away from that complaining neighbor 10ks and more.
Congrats On the marathons!!!!!
Thank you so much, you truly are an inspiration!!
Congrats on starting again and returning to a healthy way of living. I am glad you were helped by the video. You can certainly do this and be as and even more successful as last time!
Thanks for the words of affirmation. Keep going down the right path. I always find it amusing how they constantly look for items they can’t have like stout free cheese, ice cream, etc. It’s like the low stout ppl aren’t pleased with what they are doing and are looking forward to the moment they are off of it.
first, congrats on the marathons!! second thanks for this video, I’ve heard of the golden shot and it made me a small down, I thought I had blown all of my efforts because I messed up on my diet, this encourages me so much, I started my low carb again today, thanks again you really do inspire us all!!
Yeah, it is completely healthy. I haven’t had a terrible blood workup, urinalysis, or annual physical since starting Atkins 4 years ago. I know Atkineers who have been on the diet since the 70s, and they are still healthy and active. I haven’t suffered any of the negative side effects, and my doc couldn’t be more pleased with my diet and results.
atkins works and all – but in the long run… it does do hurt. coz lack a carbs isnt healthy is it,
Atkins works especially after induction i lost like 50 lbs its hard at first but worth it.
I read that article at low carb luxury as well months ago. I will admit that at first I was a small discouraged since I do have a history with low carb. Of course that didn’t stop me from proceeding with my current process of following the lifestyle. Something that I like to point out is.. lowcarbers call their WoE a lifestyle.. lowfat advocates call their WoE a diet. Fascinating eh? Thanks for another fantastic video Kent, keep em coming. They help motivate me and countless others!
You are very welcome and huge congrats on your weightloss! If I can help, just let me know. Excellent job, and keep up the fantastic work!
Yeah, he needs to go on an exercise program too. I let him run the stairs, but elsewhere he has an affinity to cords, which must be like bunny crack.
Thanks for validating the myth of the golden shot and for people not to be discouraged.
