Atkins Diet: Do we just want our old lives back?

This video is a response to the low carb critics (180degreehealth.blogspot.com who insist our low carb decisions just cover up our desire / cravings to return to our ancient high carb lifestyle. Collden: “Why then is “Sweet treats” the food category with the single most well loved sub forum on the Low Carber Recipe forums? I was a low carber myself for 8 months and know that it did absolutely nothing to tone down the addictive quality of sugar. My experience is like madMUUUHs, low carb place my sugar cravings to sleep in everyday situations, only to come back with an outrageous vengeance whenever I did permit myself some sweets.” My recipe videos demonstrate what I reckon are fascinating to watch as well as eat. Steak or chicken fajita salads might be awesome low carb meals to eat. They would be dull to watch me make in a video. Many of these savory things are often simpler to make with only one or two ingredients. The dessert recipes are typically more ingenious and more unique items. My intention behind the recipe videos has never been to capture what my diet looks like, but what options are open to those on a low carb lifestyle. As for wanting my ancient life or comfort foods back, I personally do not want it back. There is no part of my body that thinks candy bars would be a fantastic addition to my life or that I should return back to a frozen pizza fiend. Krispy Kremes (even fresh from the fryer) in comparison to Buffalo Wings just is no choice.

@jimmyjohnson691 If you are talking to me, then you need to catch a clue or at least give me one to what your faux haiku post means.
dude cool down
its just food
dont need to eat carbs to be pleased
get a girl
@bowulf I reckon you mean “baklava.” A balaclava is a piece of headwear similar to a ski mask.
I also found the Truvia packets way too huge, but I still delight in the smell of honey.
@SyeraMiktayee I hear you. I was in a room with a bunch of brownies, cookies, and balaclava (sp?) today, and my nose was assaulted by the smell of honey and sugar. I couldn’t even imagine trying to eat it — my teeth would have buzzed with sugar. It’s amusing how small sweetener is needed any more. Even the Truvia packets I have are 3x too huge.
The sweet stuff I do eat is much less sweet than what the average person would eat. Most of the sweet stuff I ate before starting Atkins tastes bland and oversweetened to me now. So no, I wouldn’t be eating that birthday cake. Yuck.
@bcast25 I will certainly do that. I know it isn’t simple. It especially isn’t simple on vacation, but now is time to renew your commitment and get back the same motivation you had before. You can certainly do this!
I don’t know what’s incorrect with me. I lost 20lbs with Atkins and felt fantastic. I’ve gained it all back and feel miserable. I really want to get back on track but it is hard. My husband took a two week vacation and that’s where I got into distress, eating whatever and not exercising plus I have a four year ancient boy. I’m tired of quitting on myself when it comes to my body. I’ve recently started interval training on my treadmill but I know I have to eat right as well. Please pray for me. 60lbs to lose.
Excellent points. I’m sure that some ex-heroin addicts still have heroin cravings, but I say so what? Less carbs = healthier, regardless of some people’s cravings.
I am loving your videos! You rock and keep on with your videos please!
Thank you so much your awesome!! I like your vids !!!
im in my fifth week of induction and have lost 32 pounds. i now have the energy to exercise wich will compound the rate im losing now.i dont crave sugar, or any food for that matter. im never hungry. i sleep better, breath better,go simpler, feel better, and look better. i dont give a crap what anyone says about atkins, it is incredible. should have tried it years ago when i first heard of it.
@melissamc100 Atkins can certainly help with your desire. There is no way to spot reduce stout, but low carb does show a propensity to reduce visceral stout (stout around one’s organs). With a few pounds to lose, I would start with Induction, and then progress to OWL straight away.
i have a serious question.I am 120lb.and 5ft. tall..and i just want to lose my belly stout. Is atkins the way to go for just that part of my body? and what should i start at with the atkins diet..
thanks for replying you helped inspire my wife to lose 80lbs. and now im folowing her lead.keep it up with these vids and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
@surge1899 Ditto here… This is the only thing that works for me too.
i started the atkins diet at 305lbs. about five months ago now im 265lbs. this diet is incredible it is helping me loose wait and mainly KEEPING IT OFF.i recomend it to anyone who has never tryed it and has tryed everything else.keep up the vids there fantastic!
a video of you cooking a steak or grilling may be dull to some, but its is a CLASSIC dish to eat!
Everyone want to eat all they wanted of any food and have “no repercussions”! That is just not the way it is in the real world and no matter what you do to gain that place of self control over your eating so that you are eating in a way that is excellent for your weight control and health, it means not eating all of what you want all the time without repercussions, so the argument is not really valid. In my case, low-carbing, I delight in treats within my boundaries but no longer have cravings.
What difference does it make as long as a person is able to keep their weight under control?
@BodybuildingTom Thank you for the kind words, and I reckon your comments are better than I had. You are right on!
Just stumbled onto your videos, fantastic stuff, especially the cancer video.
The whole “if low carbers could eat a birthday cake without any repercussions” statement has as much impact to an argument as saying “if people could stay underwater without drowning they would”. For me if cake was comprised out of stout and protein and tasted the same I would throw it in my diet somewhere. I don’t crave it or many sweets for that matter.
@bowulf Thats fantastic
Lol, i’ve been watching your videos, but mainly your older ones, since they pertain to my more current situation. I need a new webcam and It seems this one is excellent.
@BigJohnIsOn Absolutely! My former self would never have been this involved in the kitchen or even looking for new recipes. I would have picked whatever was commercially made or simplest to make from commercial ingredients. (like Chinese from a box ingredients)
@Wrathorn Really I have had it for awhile… I got a Creative HD Vado about 14 months ago. Some of the original video I shot but was done by lesser video editing software, but I am using the same basic editing suite / computer now for last 6 months.
This video was done earlier in the day than most my other videos, so I thought I would use the abundance of natural light this time. I am sure the crispness is helped by that as the Vado has some low light problems.
Nice, you got an HD camera now
Since when?
